Apply an Insurance Payment Manually - Secondary

 

This help page explains the steps involved in manually applying a secondary insurance payment to a claim. The secondary claim must be created before a secondary insurance payment can be applied.

 

  • When the patient account number does not match the HF Claim ID, use the Advanced Claim Search located next to Get.
  • Search by patient name, provider, payer, service date, created date, or charges. Only one search criteria is required.
  • Click the Claim ID under the Payer column

  • Adjudicate according to the EOB:
    • Scroll down to Claim Details. The amount left over as Pat Resp (patient responsibility) from the primary claim will populate the Ins PT in the Claim Details section. The remaining balance is auto-adjusted as OA-23, but not reported as an adjustment. If the secondary pay did not pay, move the balance to the patient or insurance adjustment.
    • Note: Expand the Related Claims screen to view the adjudication of the primary claim.
