Billing Process for Posting and Applying Payments


The three easy steps it takes the Billing Department to post and apply payments, from EOBs to patient payments to ERAs.


Post and Apply Payments

Here are ways to post and apply payments to a patient’s account.

1.     Post and Manually Apply all paper checks and EOBs received at the office.

2.     Auto Post all ERAs available from the ERA Dashboard.


Patient Payment History

3. Confirm all patient payments have been posted and applied.


A patient payment can be applied in a number of screens. This document reviews the process from the patient’s chart. A payment of a patient can also be applied in the “Charge Entry” screen and from the “Payments Overview” menu.


1. Search for patient’s chart
2. Click “Payment History”

3. Click on the “Payment I.D.”

4. Click “Claim I.D.”

Note: All open claims will show automatically. View and sort options are available if multiple dates are displayed.

5. Post payment

a. Enter the dollar amount in the “Pat Pmt” column
b. Click “Post Payment”
